Unloc Student Discount App Design             2020
Unloc is a student discount startup with aim of bringing a loyalty card culture to India. The company wants to consolidate useful offers and end the era of spammy notifications by filtering only relevant communications from liked brands. With India being home to one of the largest student population in the world, the Unloc app aims to serve young minds and inculcate a habit of saving as well.

BRIEF

To design a student discount app that would allow users a joyful, seamless, personalized experience and aid their student experience while raising awareness about savings and financial planning.

RESEARCH

Research started with a benchmarking study of similar global apps such as Totum, Unidays and Groupon. Through interaction with students and ex-students, pain points and insights regarding retail behaviour were drawn up.
1.  Users lose interest if the apps don't provide
    relevant content. They do not want to wade
    through offers to find those useful to them.
3. Younger generations are open to trying new
    brands but look it up and like some background. 


5. Discounts are rarely utilized on time as users are 
    unable to store them in a convenient place.
2. A lot of colleges in India do not have a system of
    student email id thus students never end up
    receiving student benefits. 
4. Majority of the students have a a limited budget
    and this phase is the an early exposure of managing
    one's finances themselves.


6. Personalized interactions within apps make for
    better experiences and build brand loyalty.
USER FLOW

Based on the insights and pain points, the user journey was mapped out along with the user flow and wireframes for the same. The structure and flow was kept simple, using at most 3 taps to reach any desired functionality. 
STYLE GUIDE

Unloc is a fun, adventurous brand with a youthful demographic. The visual design represents that. The Unloc blue is energetic but not overpowering, used very selectively to highlight. The wide and diverse secondary palette creates an engaging and fun visual stimulus especially when paired with the simple icon based language. 
TONE OF VOICE

One of the most essential parts for a new brand is how it communicates with its audience. Unloc is witty, young, friendly and easy to approach. It aims to be the facilitator of a new lifestyle change in the country.

SOLUTION HIGHLIGHTS: CONSUMER APP

The dashboard is where the bulk of the functionalities are located. The design aims to simplify this and ensure that the user is not overwhelmed. Popular filters in the form of categories ensure relevant discounts are found quickly.  
Small, well-timed interaction and animation adds to the overall joyous experience and helps build brand loyalty. They are a visual delight to the user.
A large part of the app is to help bring about a lifestyle change by inculcating the loyalty card culture and raise awareness about finances. The app incentives savings by way of rewards and keeps a track of the total savings. Furthermore, it curates articles related to financial knowledge for the youth. 
Since India has a wide spectrum of recognized and unrecognized institutions, the verification of students can be done in multiple ways. 
SOLUTION HIGHLIGHTS: VENDOR APP

The extended scope included the vendor app for outlets to register onto the app and manage users and discounts.
